GARDEN DESIGN

Initial consultation – to discuss your thoughts and ideas for your garden. I will also discuss with you garden styles; colour schemes; materials; plants that you like and don’t like and if you have a budget. Following this I will send you a copy of your design brief as discussed along with a breakdown of my services and fees, clearly explaining the stages and costs involved. Once you have accepted this I will start working on the design.

Site Survey and Analysis – in order for me to provide accurate drawings for your garden design I will need to carry out a comprehensive survey of your garden. This will include soil analysis, existing levels (if required); record existing features; aspect; boundaries and all site measurements. This information will enable me to put together a scale survey plan of your garden against which the design will be based. Please note for large or complicated sites a qualified Garden Surveyor will do the survey.

The Design – I draw all my designs by hand.

  • The Concept Plan – using your design brief and the survey information I will start to put together an initial design including 3D sketches to help you visualise your new garden. I will then meet with you to discuss the design, where any changes or additions can be discussed.
  • The Outline Plan – Once you have accepted the Concept Plan – I can then draw a detailed coloured Outline Plan from which your garden will be built. I will meet with you again and present the plan to you.
  • Planting Plan – either as a stand-along service or as part of this Full Garden Design – I will put together a scale drawing showing names of the plants; numbers of plants and their positions. All plants will be carefully selected to look good, work hard and thrive in your garden.
  • Technical Drawings – For smaller, more straight-forward projects, the detailed Outline Plan is sufficient for a competent Landscape Contractor to build your garden. For larger projects I can provide you with detailed construction drawings for steps; retaining walls; paving and water features. And setting out drawings for the Landscape Contractor. For more complex features within the designs such as water features, it may be necessary to consult with experts such as structural engineers; water experts or lighting designers on your behalf.
  • Plant Sourcing; Supply and Planting – To help you save time I can source and organise the supply of the plants from the nurseries. I can also do the planting with my team of qualified horticulturalists, setting the plants out as per the plan and planting them.
  • Axonometric 3D drawings – I can provide hand drawn axonometric 3D drawings to help bring my designs to life.
